Damning Report on UK’s Treatment of People with Schizophrenia

I just read this damning report on the treatment of patients with schizophrenia in the UK. I’ve read that UK treatment of patients with severe mental illness was more progressive than in the US. I don’t know if that is true, but, if so, imagine the report the US would get.

This article states that the “treatment” people with schizophrenia get is more likely to make them worse than better. In some of my experiences, that is true. I’ve had many patient right’s violations; I’ve been put in seclusion for nothing; I’ve fought hard to be taken seriously; I’ve been discriminated against and have experienced other abuses all around.

Investing in the well being of people with mental illness is not only the right thing to do; it is also more cost effective.

In a damning report on how people with the severe mental illness are cared for in Britain, the experts said there were “catastrophic failings” in treatment and described “shameful” standards of care on some mental health wards.

The problems arise and are exacerbated in part by public misconceptions that schizophrenics are crazy, violent people who pose a risk to society, they said.
